HALLS & COMPANY’S JOHNSON NAMED CANDIDATE FOR PPAI BOARD
The 19-year industry veteran is campaigning for one of the most prestigious volunteer positions in the promotional products industry.
BROOKLYN PARK, MINNESOTA (August 3, 2012) – Eric Johnson, MAS, vice president of sales and development for Halls & Company, manufacturer of ID Line, Goodkind Pens and Prism Line, has been named a candidate for the PPAI Board of Directors, Class of 2017.
A long-time and active industry volunteer, Johnson began serving Upper Midwest Association of Promotional Professionals (UMAPP) more than 15 years ago and has held numerous positions including president, past president, RAC delegate and legislative chair. His volunteer service at PPAI dates back to 1998 and has included numerous committees and task forces including the Professional Development Committee, Suppliers Committee and Education Committee.
While Johnson has not had the specific goal being elected to the PPAI Board, serving and giving back to the industry has always been important to him. “This campaign to run for the PPAI Board of Directors has become a natural extension of serving the industry,” he explained. “I often hear from other professionals about our industry…what is good, what is bad and what could be better. I want to take that input and continue in the tradition of those that came before me and help create a better industry.”
As a second-generation owner of a small family business, Johnson understands the everyday successes and challenges other entrepreneurs like him face every day. “I feel I can accurately and aggressively represent those that are in a similar situation as my family and me,” he said. “I have served on many committees and task forces through PPAI and my regional association, and I’m also involved in local politics as a current two-term City Councilman for Champlin, Minnesota. I know how to listen, and I know how to be heard.”
Johnson is competing with one other supplier for the coveted seat, as the board is being resized to consist of four distributors and four suppliers with four-year terms, with one distributor and one supplier joining the board each year. Board representation also includes one Regional Association Council (RAC) delegate and one at-large director.
Elections will run from September 3 to October 3, with PPAI members in good standing from the supplier (domestic and international), distributor (domestic and international), business services and multi-line representatives member categories eligible to vote. The election will be conducted via electronic voting and paper ballots, and the new board members will take office following The PPAI Expo 2013.
If elected, Johnson says his primary goal is to continue steering the ship in the right direction. “Our industry has had and will have many challenges ahead of it, and I want to ensure that not only the Association representing it members is prepared for the future but also that our members are better prepared for what’s ahead,” he said. “To do this, PPAI must be at the forefront of three areas:
- Putting on the best industry tradeshows and events as possible
- Representing and looking out for its members in the regulatory and legislative arenas
- Having the best and most timely industry education available to its members
“However, the issues confronting the industry are as varied as the members that are part of PPAI,” he continued. “Broadly speaking, by addressing, strengthening and appropriately expanding these three areas, we will steer the industry in the right direction and prepare our members for the future.”
